This Soil Moisture Sensor is used to measure the moisture in soil and similar materials. The soil moisture sensor is pretty straight forward to use. The two long exposed metal rods function as probes for the sensor, together acting as a variable resistor. The more water that is in the soil means the better the conductivity between the probes will be and will result in a lower resistance, and a lower output signal.
The sensor comes with an interfacing board that has both digital and analog output. The potentiometer on the interfacing board is used to set the threshold for the digital output. When the moisture level is below the threshold, the digital output (DO) will set to High and the green LED turns off, and vice versa when the moisture level is above the threshold. The analog output pin is provided for more precise measurement.
This Soil Moisture Sensor is ideal for monitoring an urban garden, or your pet plant's water level. This is a must have tool for a connected garden or IoT projects. The sensor works with 3.3V to 12VDC
