SGBotic has created a series of micro:bit EduFun Mini Project Kits with an aim of making advance devices available to micro:bit inventors. Much efforts have been devoted to designing the MakeCode block packages to remove the complexity of using these devices, making it easier for inventors to incorporate into their projects.

This LED Matrix Module allows you to experiment with dot matrix LEDs without all the complicated wirings and programming. Only three digital control pins are required to control hundreds of LEDs. The onboard LED driver beneath each LED block will handle all the complicated stuff such as controlling and refreshing the LEDs. Using only these three digital control pins, the module can be daisy-chained to make larger LED displays. It is a great add-on to your micro:bit project for displaying information.

A MakeCode block package has been developed to remove the complexity of using this LED Matrix Module in your project.

The project in the printed guide will guide through the wiring as well as using the MakeCode blocks to monitor the micro:bit temperature and display this information on the LED Matrix Module.

Kit includes:

  • 32x8 LED Matrix Module
  • M/F jumper wire
  • Printed guide

Take note that BBC Micro:Bit, T-Expansion board and breadboard which are used in the project are not included in this kit. Instead of T-Expansion Board, you can also use any micro:bit breakout board that has SDA/SCL pin (pin 19 and 20).

Features:

  • 3V / 5V supply
  • LED brightness adjustment
  • Support daisy-chain for larger display
  • 3-wire SPI interface
